Presidents Cup: USA Swept 5-0 as International Team Stages Strong Comeback on Day 2.Cau

The Presidents Cup took an exciting turn on Day 2 as the International Team made a stunning comeback, sweeping the USA 5-0 in Friday’s foursomes to tie the overall score at 5-5.

After a dominant performance from Team USA on Day 1, where they led 5-0, the Internationals rebounded spectacularly, starting with Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im’s impressive 7-and-6 victory over Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, which tied the record for the shortest match in tournament history.

International captain Mike Weir expressed immense pride in his team’s resilience and performance, emphasizing the importance of nerves and confidence in such high-stakes competition. “To see their hard work pay off today was incredible,” Weir said.

In contrast, USA captain Jim Furyk acknowledged the need for his team to respond with equal determination. “Their backs were against the wall, and they came out firing. We need to do the same,” he stated.

Team USA failed to win a single matchup during Friday's games.

Team members noted the energizing impact of the crowd, with Tom Kim highlighting their support as a crucial factor in the International Team’s success. “The crowd was unbelievable today,” Kim said, emphasizing how their enthusiasm fueled the players.

As the competition enters its final two days, both teams are poised for a fierce battle. Tony Finau from Team USA remarked on the competitive nature ahead, calling it a “dogfight.” Adam Scott of the International Team echoed this sentiment, stressing the need for focus and high performance to maintain their momentum.

The crowd was lively throughout the day as the International Team battled back to level the scores.

With the score now tied, all eyes will be on the weekend’s matches as both teams vie for supremacy in this thrilling tournament.
