HOT SEAT ALERT: ‘Growing Speculation’ Brian Daboll Could Be Coaching His Last Games for Giants.Cau

November 19, 2024 by cau cau

The job security of New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll will reportedly be determined by the team’s performance throughout the remainder of the 2024 season.

Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz revealed that there is a “growing sense” Daboll is “coaching for his job” during New York’s final seven regular-season games.

On Monday, the Giants benched quarterback Daniel Jones in favor of second-year passer Tommy DeVito.

A potential head coaching change likely won’t occur soon, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are “safe right now” during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.

Giants owner John Mara previously expressed his support for Daboll and didn’t anticipate any major changes during the 2025 offseason.

“Obviously, we’re all very disappointed with where we are right now, but I’m going to say one thing: We are not making any changes this season and I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either,” Mara said on Oct. 23, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

The Giants currently sit at 2-8 coming out of their bye week, losing each of their past five games.

Even though Daboll took over play-calling duties prior to the regular season, offensive struggles have been rampant throughout New York’s disappointing 2024 campaign. The Giants’ scoring average of 15.6 points per game is the worst mark in the league.

Daboll’s team is also recording a mere 309.7 total yards per game, the third-worst average among NFC teams.

New York will attempt to end the year on a high note, with four of their final seven contests at home. The Giants’ remaining opponents own a combined record of 37-36 this season.

DeVito is set to make his first start of the year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday as New York looks to snap its current losing streak.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
