A massive rescue operation was undertaken to liberate over 30 cats discovered amidst a house engulfed in mountains of refuse.
Dozens of cats were found abandoned in a house in Droitwitch, England.
Around 30 cats, including 11 kittens, were found in a pitiful state in a house in Droitwitch , England . The occupants of the accommodation had been evicted several weeks previously, and the felines had been left abandoned. Thanks to the Ginger Cat Crafts association , the cats were saved and recovered by different shelters.
The cats had completely matted hair
A team of volunteer cat trappers went to the home in question to rescue the felines. The house was filled with piles of trash, and the cats were hidden among the trash. Many of them had long and very matted hair.
“ There were cats and kittens everywhere. […] The house was dirty and the rooms were packed, so there were plenty of hiding places ,” said Cramar Cat Rescue , in words reported by Worcester News . ” The floors were also covered in dead kittens! Probably from starvation, disease, or inbreeding .”
The felines were captured humanely, then distributed to shelters
Rescuers managed to catch the cats using humane traps. However, they spent several days there. The felines were then distributed to different animal sanctuaries in the region, which agreed to help them even though they were already full. Some of the cats are lucky to have already found adopters. This is the case of Geraldina and Jane , in the photo below.
The RSPCA reiterates the importance of sterilizing cats
The RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) wanted to remind people of the importance of having domestic cats sterilized. Cats that have access to the outdoors, and especially males, contribute to considerably increasing the number of stray cats.
For example, in Droitwitch ‘s house , a cat only 9 months old was found pregnant. Sterilization helps fight this scourge. For females, this operation is carried out between 4 and 6 months.
