Cher revealed in her new self-titled memoir that she sometimes served as a confidant for the late and great Tina Turner when she was involved with her abusive first husband Ike Turner.
In the book, the Burlesque actor revealed that the Proud Mary singer had come to Cher for help when she was trying to gain the courage to split from Ike. This occurred while the Turners were guests on Chers solo eponymously named TV show. Cher got her own solo show after she broke up with her husband Sonny Bono. Similar to Tina, Cher also had issues during her marriage as she accused him of emotional abuse in their divorce proceedings.
“Tina Turner came on the show twice with her then-husband, Ike,” Cher recalled.

“One of the days we were shooting, she came to my room before we went on asking if I had some cover-up, she added. She had a bruise on her arm she didn’t want showing on camera. I told her I had something that would work. She sat down while I looked for it and then quietly said, very straightforward, ‘Tell me how you left him.'”
Cher continued: “I looked at her and told her, ‘I just walked out and kept going. In retrospect, that reminds me of me going to Lucy.” Tina and Ikes tumultuous marriage was documented in her 1986 memoir I, Tina and her 2018 memoir My Love Story: A Memoir.
I, Tina was what the 1993 film Whats Love Got To Do With It starring Angela Basset as Turner was based on. The film captured a moment when Tina ran from Ike with only 36 cents and a Mobil credit card in her possession.
Tina fled from Ike without taking anything, which happened immediately after they got into a bloody brawl, most likely stemming from the convo she had with Cher. Tina was a guest on Cher, which went from 1975 to 1976, in April of 1975, later leaving Ike on July 1, 1976.
After Tina appeared on Chers show they became closer friends, performing several times together over the years. Cher also visited Tina in the last months before she died in 2023.
