Kim Basinger Talks About Her ‘Great Relationship’ with Alec Baldwin in Rare Interview
In a rare interview, Kim Basinger opened up about her life, career, and her relationship with ex-husband Alec Baldwin. The Oscar-winning actress, who has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, shared her thoughts in an interview with Variety, reflecting on the years since their marriage ended.
Basinger and Baldwin were married from 1993 to 2002 and share an adult daughter, Ireland. While Baldwin has since remarried Hilaria Baldwin and has seven children with her, Basinger emphasized that she and her ex-husband maintain a positive relationship.
“We have a great relationship,” Basinger explained. “I have great respect for where he is today, and his family. We don’t spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much, but we talk. He’ll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial and I think loving relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter, and I don’t wish him anything but everything good.”
Basinger also acknowledged that Baldwin has “been through a lot lately,” likely referring to the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Baldwin’s film Rust in 2021. Baldwin pleaded not guilty, and the case was dismissed in July 2024.
As for Baldwin’s current wife, Hilaria, Basinger expressed confidence in her ability to support Baldwin, saying, “Hilaria seems to have a great handle on that. So more power to her.”
Basinger also touched on her own desire for privacy, emphasizing her commitment to staying out of the public eye. “Your anonymity is like a helium balloon. It slips out of your hand, and that’s it. I found that out pretty young,” she said, recalling the intense public scrutiny she faced throughout her career. “Getting off airplanes all over the world and having people stalk your hotel rooms and bodyguards and police… you’re just dumbfounded.”
