Apple Adds 8 New Emojis in iOS 18.4 Update — Including a Tired Face and Turnip

Apple has rolled out eight new emojis with its latest iOS 18.4 update, giving iPhone users more expressive ways to text — and even a long-awaited turnip emoji.

To access the new emojis, users will need to update their devices to iOS 18.4. The new additions include:

  • A tired face with under-eye bags
  • A blue fingerprint
  • A purple splatter
  • A shovel
  • A bare tree
  • A harp
  • A radish (often mistaken for a turnip)
  • The flag of Sark, a small self-governing island in the Channel Islands

Apple Hub highlighted the update in a social media post on March 31, sparking both excitement and playful sarcasm from fans online.

“I’m still saying that this will be the most used emoji of the year,” one user wrote about the exhausted face. Another joked, “Finally a turnip,” while someone else chimed in, “Definitely needed that beetroot one!! Life has been unfulfilling without it.”

This isn’t the first time emojis have made headlines. Past updates have included changes like turning a plain bagel into one with cream cheese and introducing a pregnant man emoji to reflect diverse gender identities. When the bagel was updated, even Philadelphia Cream Cheese celebrated on social media.

But emojis weren’t the only part of the iOS 18.4 upgrade. The update also introduced new Apple Intelligence features — including better privacy protections, language expansions, and enhanced writing tools across iPhones, iPads, and Macs (including iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4).

Apple’s Writing Tools, available in Vision Pro, now support more languages like French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. Users can also proofread, rewrite, summarize, or even compose text from scratch using ChatGPT.

Additionally, Apple introduced a new “Sketch” style in Image Playground, designed for creating detailed academic illustrations.

With all these changes, it’s clear Apple’s focus goes beyond just fun emojis — but fans are still here for the turnip.
