The Cowboys have more than $40 million in available cap space.
But for now, Dallas seems content to renew its pacts with special teams contributors while staying out of the big free agency conversations.
Tuesday’s re-signings of return man Kevontae Turpin and punter Bryan Anger have brought out plenty of mocking, both from those who love the Cowboys and those who hate the Cowboys.
In a post on X, the account Cowboys Due Diligence wrote, “This team just paid more total money to their punter than 3 out of the 4 outside free agents they’ve brought in so far.”

It’s especially curious given the recent restructuring of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb’s contracts, which helped clear cap space for this offseason. Any Micah Parsons extension could also rearrange money to allow for plenty of space to remain to sign players right now.
Many of the good players are off the board, though, and the Cowboys pretty much have Javonte Williams and Solomon Thomas to show for their troubles.
They did recently give $80 million in a re-signing to defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, too.
Turpin is a special return man, to be fair, and Anger a solid punter. But Cowboys fans want more.
“Jerry (Jones) know y’all gonna be punting a lot,” wrote one commenter.
Another post on X went like this: “Jerry Jones must feel fantastic. He can literally do whatever he wants with the Cowboys from now on and it’ll be fine, because at least he didn’t trade Luka Doncic.”
And then there’s this: “No one hates the Cowboys front office more than Cowboys fans. No one hates Cowboys fans more than the Cowboys front office.”
Vibes are certainly less than immaculate in Dallas right now, and that likely won’t change unless Jones starts using some more of that available cap room.
