After eight seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, former Super Bowl MVP and wide receiver Cooper Kupp will have a new home in 2025.
After battling injury the past three seasons, the Rams decided to part ways with the star wide receiver on Wednesday. Initially, Los Angeles tried to find a trade partner, but now Kupp is heading to free agency, where he can choose his destination.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kupp is already drawing significant interest on the open market, with Schefter noting that at least a dozen teams have reached out.
Among those squads are the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and the Rams’ NFC West rival, the Seattle Seahawks. The NFL insider adds that Kupp’s decision could come soon.
“At least a dozen teams have called him and expressed interest in exploring a deal with Cooper Kupp,” Schefter said. “He’s going to have a multitude of options from teams who declined to trade for him and the contract he had with the Rams, but are interested in signing Kupp to a contract of their own. There will be any number of possibilities, but teams that bear watching here include the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos and the New England Patriots, amongst others.
“Cooper Kupp’s going to have options, we should have a decision here fairly soon,” Schefter concluded.
The Seahawks are certainly a logical fit for Kupp. After all, Seattle recently cut ties with Tyler Lockett via release and DK Metcalf via trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, leaving their wide receivers room depleted.
Seattle has Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had a breakout campaign in 2024, and signed veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency. However, more is needed after the significant losses the Seahawks have taken at the position this offseason.
Kupp does come with some concerns, however, which is part of the reason why no teams were willing to trade for him and his big contract.
Set to turn 32 this year, Kupp has been derailed by injuries the past three seasons, but he showed he can still make an impact when on the field, as evidenced by his 710 receiving yards in 12 contests in 2024.
Kupp would be a sizeable upgrade for the Seahawks’ wide receivers room and would be a strong bridge option until Seattle can figure out its long-term plan, which could very well include drafting a wide receiver in April.
