Keke Palmer recently opened up about a memorable piece of advice from rapper and actor Ice Cube, given during their time filming the 2008 sports comedy The Longshots. Speaking on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, the 31-year-old actress recalled how Ice Cube, 55, urged her to protect herself in the entertainment industry. “He told me to know who I am and not let others take advantage of me,” Palmer shared, adding that the wisdom has stayed with her since she was 14.

The actress described being called into a room where Ice Cube, surrounded by his bodyguards, offered heartfelt guidance about Hollywood’s challenges. “He said people might not see me the way I see myself,” Palmer recounted, expressing gratitude for his fatherly advice and industry insight.

Palmer also reflected on her journey as a public figure, acknowledging the lessons she has learned from her personal and professional experiences. Now a mother to her son Leo, born in February 2023, Palmer shared in a recent interview with PEOPLE that she feels “fabulous” and is open to exploring new relationships. Despite past challenges, she emphasized her focus on self-worth and confidence.

Ice Cube’s advice and support highlight the importance of mentorship in navigating Hollywood, especially for young talents like Palmer, who continue to grow and inspire in their careers.
